“There are many health factors we cannot change: our genetics, traumatic experiences in the past, the general culture of food around us, and stress to name just a few. But, we each have the power to change the way in which we react to these factors.”

~ Mercy Hylton, M.D.

GOD GRANT ME

THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE

THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN

AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

In 2016, while juggling a hectic schedule as an emergency physician, wife and mother of three young children, Mercy Hylton, MD, MBA, faced a personal health crossroads. Her sentinel event was a HgbA1c of 6.4, signaling an almost inevitable diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. Having cared for many patients, even those who followed their doctor’s orders, who suffered the terrible health consequences of diabetes, Dr. Hylton was compelled to make lifestyle and dietary changes with a focus on improving her insulin resistance. She was pleasantly surprised with the relative ease in adopting these new habits and thrilled with the sustainability of her lifestyle changes for her metabolic health. With Mind Over Metabolism, what started as a personal health crisis, has blossomed into a professional mission to help patients improve and reverse insulin resistance and its associated conditions.

Dr. Hylton received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Oklahoma (Class of 1997) before attending medical school at the University of Oklahoma (Class of 2001). She completed a dual residency in emergency medicine and pediatrics at Indiana University (2006) and is double board-certified in emergency medicine and pediatrics. After practicing general emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine as an attending physician in the Indianapolis area for many years, Dr. Hylton decided to shift the focus of her practice from treating patients during health emergencies to helping patients heal the root cause of many health problems (and potentially avoid some emergency visits)!
